Pair charged after meth lab found in trunk of Nissan Sentra
The incident began when a detective saw the pair in the car "driving erratically" on Hollybrook Avenue in Lincolnton, authorities said.
When Detective Dennis Harris and Detective Jason Munday approached the car they could smell a strong chemical order coming from the vehicle, deputies said.
In the car was driver Samuel Darren Pinnix, Christy Rebecca Payne and another woman, deputies say.
"A search of the vehicle revealed a meth lab in the trunk of the vehicle," deputies said in a press release.
The lab was confirmed by Detective Lester White of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, who is certified by the D.E.A. in Basic Clandestine Lab Recognition, deputies said.
Samuel Darren Pinnix, 40, of Hiddenite, and Christy Rebecca Payne, 43, of Vale, were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and each received a $40,000 bond.
Additional warrants for Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor Chemicals have been secured for both Samuel Darren Pinnix and Christy Rebecca Payne.
An additional warrant for Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance has been obtained against Samuel Darren Pinnix.
