DICE Has New Multiplayer Philosophy For Battlefield 3
Hi Lars! What was the initial design goal you and the team set for Battlefield 3 multiplayer?We thought a lot about Battlefield 2 and how Battlefield 3 would relate to it. The mindset at DICE during the development of Battlefield 2 was pretty much: “Play the game our way, or play something else”. Now, we have made a conscious effort to reverse that mentality. The goal with Battlefield 3 is to offer a vast variety of gameplay experiences and to be inviting to everyone. We’re not telling you how to play the game. You choose. Too much hate on here. Personally I really like that they're not just sticking with good, old Conquest. I really enjoy Conquest, but Rush is amazingly action-packed and I prefer it. Sometimes a good match of TDM is also cool. The more game modes, the better. Besides, the choice is there - if you dislike it, don't play it - simple. I also really like the ranking system and unlocks although I wish BFBC2 had some more unlocks beyond Rank 26. Either more unlocks or just more evenly spaced out. Rank 50 could have also awarded something extra, perhaps that skins DLC they sell for £3.99 should be "unlocked" (for free) at Rank 50. I was a bit disappointed when Rank 50 was nothing but Rank 49 + 1. That would be very cool. Not so *needed* these days with ADSL, cable and all that jazz. ADSL in Gibraltar is pretty damn slow and if I was living here permanently and all my friends were too, we'd be very grateful for a LAN mode with bots. However, the way things are, we'd just go online together on a good server, each from his own Internet connection, and enjoy that. Freedom of choice = 4 maps playable only in rush mode, 4 maps playable only in CQ, and maybe 6 maps playable in TDM. and out of those 8 maps in grand total, there is 4 cqc, 2 medium sized and 2 large maps. So if someone expects to play on huge maps with vehicles and whatnot.. as if it was a BF game, their "free choices" in content will be extremely limited. The answer should have been a unanimous vote of: "yes, you are", and the meeting should have been adjourned! I'm joking, but I also hope they don't let this attitude water down their game play modes, which I think a lot of people appreciate. I already feel some of that is missing from BC2 and I was hoping it was making a come back in BF3.

The BF 2 1.5 Patch brings additional support for Windows Vista, widescreen support, and BF2.exe can now use more than 2GB of ram. Now the J10 and F35B are more balanced, AA targeting is more effective, checks now prevent runway grieving.
