Cops: Man, 79, abused 105-year-old woman
STEVEN COUNTY, WA (KREM/CNN) - Investigators in Washington state say they found a 105-year-old woman living in a house filled with garbage, guns and dogs.
Detective James Caruso found Frances Swan, 105, trapped in her room in Stevens County, WA.
"She again said, 'Please feed me, he hasn't feed me since yesterday,'" Caruso said.
Authorities found her while investigating a complaint of animal neglect against John Friedlund, 79.
"He argued with a 105-year-old woman about whether he had fed her or not. Why not go get her something to eat," Caruso said.
Friedlund was living at the Swan's house, but does not know if he was a paid caregiver.
"It just kept getting worse and worse and worse," said Eddie Reagles, a neighbor.
Swan is now at a nursing home, and detectives are trying to find relatives.
"She's 105, turning 106-years old, and you know she has to feel like society failed her," Caruso said.
Friedlund was charged with felony criminal mistreatment, and is out of jail on $25,000 bond.
