Crest Crank Unveils New Design and T-Shirt

Building on the Crest Crank’s tradition of working with a local graphic artist who is free to let their creative spirit shine, the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse asked Jared Jacob of SundayLounge.com to create the look of the 2011 event.

Drawing on 20 years of professional design, Jacob crafted a new look that reflects the new and improved Monarch Crest Crank fundraiser.  For the first time, Monarch Crest Crank T-shirts and limited edition posters are available to the public.

This year, AADA is moving the event back to downtown Salida with an adventure biking slide show at Salida Mountain Sports on the night of August 20 and three bicycle rides the next day.  The show will be a tale of biking in the Himalayas by writer and photographer Nathan Ward.

The first ride is the famed Monarch Crest Trail that AADA has offered for over a decade.  This is known as one of the top 5 rides in the United States and follows the spine of the nation along the Continental Divide above treeline before dropping thousands of vertical feet back down into the forest below.  It’s an amazing ride.

The new mountain bike ride is for beginner or intermediate mountain bikers on the Salida Mountains trails.  Depending on the ability of the group, local guides will lead riders on a beginner ride along the new Little Rainbow Trail.  Intermediate riders will enjoy doing guided loops on the Salida Mountain Trail system behind Tenderfoot (S) Mountain.

Finally, for those who don’t mountain bike at all, a new ride called the Historic Salida Cruiser Tour will lead riders of all ages and abilities through the streets of Salida on cruiser bikes, stopping at some of the more exciting historical locations in the town.

The event finishes with a party along the Arkansas River featuring live music and a barbeque.

Jacob’s vintage-styled design reflects the new face of the event and is available to non-riders for the first time on t-shirts and a limited edition poster print by Jacob.

“A lot of people locally say they don’t want to pay to ride the Crest Trail because they can ride it any day they like,” said event organizer Nathan Ward, “That is true, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t want to support the important work of AADA.  The new T-shirt and poster sales give Salida and Buena Vista individuals an economical way to show their support for the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse.”
