Glee Live! smashes weekend attendance record at The O2
THE O2 are celebrating a record breaking Gleek-end after thousands flocked to see the concert tour of hit US TV show Glee.
Performances last Saturday and Sunday of Glee Live! created a new record for the number of people to see a show at The O2 over a weekend.
The opening four shows, of a seven show sell-out residency, saw the Glee Live! cast perform to more than 66,000 fans or Gleeks over the two days.
Bosses at The O2, delighted at the record attendance presented the cast of Glee Live! with a special commemorative award before their final performance last night.
Sally Davies, The O2 events director, said: “We couldn’t let this record go un-rewarded so we were delighted to be able to present the cast with the special award.
"Glee Live! has been one of the most successful acts ever to play The O2.
"To say the show is feel good just doesn’t come close. The feedback we’ve been getting on The O2 Facebook and Twitter pages has been incredible.
"It looks like most of the 66,000 Gleeks had the time of their lives. What we now want to know is when is Glee Live! coming back?”
While Glee executive producer and co-creator Ryan Murphy said performing at the Greenwich venue was a dream come true for everyone involved in the show.
He said: "The incredible reception we got when we arrived was more than we'd ever imagined."
