’ Summer concert series, Events in the Plaza, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, through Aug. 9, at Independence Grove Forest Preserve’s outdoor amphitheater, Millennia Plaza, 16400 W. Buckley Road, Libertyville. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating. In the event of a rainout, concerts are held on Thursday of the same week. Parking is $5 per car after 5 p.m. on concert days. , 7-9:30 p.m.: The Art Center Highland Park’s 23rd annual “Gogh Green” Recycled Art Sale opening night event, $75 in advance; $85 at the door. Sale opens to the public from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. July 30, and will run through Aug. 18 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, as well as noon-4 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 6 and 13. The sale will feature thousands of pre-owned paintings, prints, jewelry, sculpture, glass, furniture, and decorative objects and more.

“Art is ... Figurative,” an exhibit showcasing the human form using traditional charcoal model drawings, portraiture, abstract figures in paint and torso studies in glass. Arek Tesarczyk , cello and Claudia Chen , piano

Tesarczyk has been with the Minnesota Orchestra since 2004. Before joining the Minnesota Orchestra he was principal cello of the Winnipeg Symphony for 11 years. Chen, an instructor at Macalester College in St. Paul, has an active career as performer, coach and teacher. She has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout United States, Canada, Eastern Europe and Chile and often collaborates with her husband, Arek Tesarczyk.
