Nontaya targets European breakthrough

Having failed to enter the LPGA Tour through the Futures Tour and qualifying events on several occasions, LET rookie Nontaya is enjoying life on the European circuit.

"I am here because I want to try something new," said the 23-year-old who is eligible to play on the LET through the qualifying school.

Although she has made the cut in only two of four tournaments this year and is 83rd on the money list, she is not discouraged and believes that she needs time to improve her game and ranking.

"I need more time to get used to the weather and course conditions here," said Nontaya.

While her overall results have been less than convincing, the Chiang Mai native was in the headlines last month when she hit her first career hole-in-one at the 225-yard 17th hole in the final round of the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open.

With the ace, she won a Skoda Yeti car and finished joint 29th in the tournament.

To keep the tour card for next season, Nontaya, who is sponsored by PTT and Singha, has to finish in the top 85 on the money list.

She believes that she can do better than that and her only problem is her physical fitness and not her game.

"It is windy and very cold here. I have to be stronger to cope with the weather," said Nontaya.

At the moment, Nontaya does not have plans to take part in an LPGA qualifying tournament but this may change later in the year.

"I am now focusing on the European tour," she said.

She will next play at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open in Switzerland this week.

Controls PTT Using Basic VOX Circuit | Electronic Circuit Diagram

If we are take a look at some of the budget priced HF transceiver, there were missing a VOX. Althoush most of these budget priced transceivers performed admirably, it would certainly be nice to have VOX capability. A basic VOX circuit is shown on the following circuit diagram which will perform very well pnce the VOX level is set correctly. To build this circuit, you not need  to spent much money. You also can find all parts at your local Radio Shack store. Check the circuit diagram below. The circuir below uses 1458 IC which is contain two 741 op amps in a single package. This circuit use hte first op amp to amplify the mike audio. The second op amp acts as a comparator. This comparator is used to saturate a switching transistor during periods of moderate mike audio.The capacitor C2 which holds a small charge when the second op amp goes high provides the necessary delay before unkeying the PTT. Variable resistor R6 sets the desired VOX level and should be adjusted for the particular voice or microphone beinf used. If you are using VOX for the first time, you’ll need some practice first. Unless you have a very quit household, dont use a microphone with excessive gain. It is also a good idea to use headphones since the audio from the transceivers speaker could key the transceiver. If you would like to increase the delay time, increase the R8 to 10K. If you would like a little less delay, decrease C2 to about 22uF. Make sure that the microphone is connected to both the VOX circuit as well as to the mike input on the transceiver. Failure to do so will result in the rig being keyed without any transmitted audio. The PTT should be connected to colloector of Q1 in the circuit.
